As we dive into the detail of preparing for the next summer season—confirming bookings, researching new dining venues, and managing paperwork—it's evident that the world of travel entails more than just glitz and glamour.
In the midst of our preparations, we explore the multifaceted history of Sydney, a city that exudes beauty on the surface but harbors a complex tapestry of stories and characters beneath its facade.
Delving into our bookshelf favorites, we uncover narratives that unveil Sydney's checkered past, revealing the dichotomy of its personality—a blend of charm and darkness that has shaped its identity over the centuries.
One of the key recommendations we make to our guests during our dining tours is to immerse themselves in a book on Sydney post-tour. As we journey between dining venues, we provide snippets of history about each precinct, enriching the experience with tales of the characters and venues that have shaped the city. Understanding these anecdotes not only adds depth to the journey but also enhances the overall entertainment of our guests long after the tour experience has passed.
A good book on Sydney can offer a treasure trove of insights and stories that bring the city's past to life, making the present-day experience all the more meaningful.
We hope you enjoy our recommendations.
Bartolo closure
We are saddened by the news of Bartolo’s untimely demise. Restaurants - and bars - become like family when you dine well and often in their beautifully curated dining rooms.
This one was particularly well thought out by its owner Jared Merlino, firstly as a homage to his Italian ancestors followed by a slice of Almafi Coast heaven. Think rich velvety textiles, stunning artwork and moody lighting. Whether it was a mid-week dinner with snooty Sydney corporates or a wild Saturday night with a couple of honeymooners from NYC, this restaurant was consistently good. Our favourite dish was the Pappadella Ragu or any of the delightfully tasty Crostini on offer.
The floor crew were always full of character and sass; knowledgeable of the menu and impressive wine list, delivering their plates with panache. We say grazie mille for their service and wish the Bartolo Crew well on your new adventures.
