Crafty Dining in Redfern in October 2018 showcased the rich variety of contemporary design, vintage furniture, textiles and dining options available in Redfern, as part of Good Food Month and Sydney Craft Week .
Rudi Rocket have been in business on Regent Street for over a decade. Simone & Brad met socially and found they had a lot in common when it came to their mutual taste in interior design and objet.
Brad has a Fine Arts degree - majoring in sculpture - and Simone is an interior architect who has worked in the design industry for the past 25 years, building her private client base.
The store is full to the brim with Scandinavian, post-modern and original art, furniture, object and lighting from the 1930’s -to the 90’s. Bold primary colours jostle with wood-paneled surfaces and smoky glassware. Rudi Rocket buy interstate from Adelaide and Brisbane as well as Sydney sources and often have random walk-ins of random wanting to sell them pieces.
They recently opened another gallery space on the corner of Chalmers and Redfern Street, open only on weekends. They field calls all week from people wandering past after a night out wanting to know details about what they have spied through the window.
Happy D’s was opened 18 months ago by mother and son duo Debra & Andrew Watts on Regent Street.
It’s a small, intimate venue with a fun ‘fake’ fish tank that runs the length of the narrow room bathed in pink neon light. You can sit at the bar and enjoy freshly steamed dumplings and a seasonal cocktail, wine, beer, sake or whisky. They have a good variety of natural wines from independent Australian producers.
The most popular dishes at this local favourite are the Pork Soup Dumplings and Peking Duck Pancakes. The quality sound system pumps out disco, ’60s and ’70s soul and sometimes there is even a live DJ!
